Law enforcement officers throughout the nation cooperate together to raise money for the Special Olympics. In 1987, the Elizabethtown Police Department became involved in Special Olympics with officers raising money and using their own time to participate in the annual Torch Run to the Special Olympic Games held in Richmond, Kentucky. The funds that are raised go to help the children with special needs in the area. Last year's local participation of the torch run raised $4500.00 and this year our goal is to exceed that amount. Anyone interested in participating in the run can contact Darrell Brangers.
