Elizabethtown Police
Department is comprised of dedicated professional police officers who
are committed to our community. As a department, we are proud of the

Chief Ruben L. Gardner

Chief Ruben Gardner has been a resident of Hardin County since 1965 and was
employed by the Elizabethtown Police Department as a patrolman in 1970. He
was assigned to the detectives section in 1973 and by 1974 was promoted to the
rank of sergeant. He was promoted to lieutenant of investigations in 1977
and then appointed to Chief of Police in 1990.
Chief Gardner received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Police Administrations
from Eastern Kentucky University in May of 1981 and completed several hours of
graduate work in Law Enforcement through the University of Virginia. Chief
Gardner is a 1983 graduate of the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia.
Chief Ruben Gardner has always been an active member in the Law
Enforcement Community. He currently is Regional Vice Chair of the
Kentucky Association of Chiefs of Police, a member of the Kentucky Peace
Officers Association where he was a Past State President and a member of
the International Association of Chiefs of Police. He was a past committee
member and served on the Kentucky Law Enforcement Education Council in
1997 through 1998. He is actively involved in the Kentucky Law
Enforcement Memorial Foundation and is the President and one of the
founding members of the Kentucky II Chapter of the Blue Knights Law
Enforcement Motorcycle Association.
