The City of Elizabethtown will provide quality service to its citizens.

The Elizabethtown Police Department became an accredited agency by the Kentucky Association of Chiefs of Police in April 2007.

Welcome to the Elizabethtown Police Department Website.  Elizabethtown  is located in the heart of Kentucky, approximately 35 miles south of Louisville along Interstate 65, where the Bluegrass Parkway begins and the Western Kentucky Parkway ends.  Elizabethtown is centrally located between Churchill Downs in Louisville, the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington and the Corvette Museum in Bowling Green. The city has a residential population of approximately 24,000 citizens which swells tremendously during working hours.  The Elizabethtown Police Department provides protection to approximately 27.5 square miles and currently employs 43 sworn police officers and 21 civilians.

 

PUBLIC NOTICE: POLICE OFFICER POSITION

A civil service exam will be given on June 8, 2009 at 9 am EST at the Elizabethtown Police Department, 300 South Mulberry Street for the position of Police Officer.  To take the test you must have an application on file.  Applications are available at the police department.  The deadline to turn in applications is 3 pm EST Wednesday June 3, 2009.  No late applications will be accepted.

Qualifications: 21 years of age, US citizen, high school diploma, valid drivers license, no felony convictions, not prohibited from carrying a firearm, honorable military discharge if applicable and able to read and speak English.  The City of Elizabethtown encourages diversity in employment .

The 2009 Battle of the Belts Challenge Winner

     The Elizabethtown Police Department held a "Battle of the Belts Challenge" during the week of May 18-22 to get the word ou to teenagers about the lifesaving benefits of wearing seatbelts  The challenge was between Central Hardin High School and Elizabethtown High School.  CHHS won with 90 percent seat belt usage vs EHS had 84 percent seat belt usage.

  The police department plans to make the "Battle of the Belts Challenge" an annual event to promote and safe guard one of the community's most precious resources - our YOUTH.
